Critical Care Virtual Tour for Patients and Relatives

The team at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - Whiston Hospital, have developed a series of seven short videos providing a virtual tour of the Critical Care Unit for patients and their relatives, as part of a service improvement project aimed at improving information, reassurance and preparedness.

While the videos were filmed at Whiston Hospital, many aspects of critical care services are similar across hospitals within the Critical Care Network, as a result, the videos can offer useful insight and help patients and families understand what to expect during a critical care admission, regardless of which network hospital they attend. 

A critical care admission can be one of the most frightening and uncertain experiences for patients and their families. The Critical Care Virtual Tour was developed to provide accessible, accurate information that helps prepare people for what they may encounter during their critical care journey.

The Critical Care Virtual Tour offers much more than a virtual walk-through of the unit. It provides reassurance, information, and support at a time when patients and families are often overwhelmed. By helping people understand what to expect the resource contributes to a more compassionate, informed, and positive experience throughout the critical care journey.
